Nate studies in Wales, Annie studies in Nottingham. Having met online, they got along well, and then met in person. They kept on meeting in person, until the happy couple now have plans of moving in with each other. Yep, it’s another online student dating success story!

We caught up with the happy couple to see how things are going, a year and a half since they first messaged each other online. Here’s what we found out…

Success Story

What first drew you to online dating?

Nate:

I’d actually come out of a bad relationship. After a couple of months of trying to ‘find myself’ again, I really wanted to meet someone new…and nice! I didn’t really have the energy to get myself out there, looking for someone. That felt too forced for me, so I just took it easy, made an online profile and waited to see if anything came of it. I noticed Annie right away. Actually, I think we noticed each other at the same time. It was really nice.

Annie:

Eugh, I was bored of the same old uni scene. I was beginning to feel past the fresher’s parties and just really wanted something that felt more special, instead of all the silly hook-ups and drama that went on in my halls. I just thought it could be a cool idea to try out, but I didn’t really think past this.

Any initial apprehensions?

Nate:

I found it hard to believe that I could meet someone online who would mean this much to me. It just feels so right, and I feel so happy now. I couldn’t imagine that before. Now I’ve just realised how corny I sound…it’s true though.

Annie:

I was also a little sceptical, but I just found the whole prospect really fun and exciting! My main worry was what other people would think of me. I think online dating has lots of out-dated connotations of being for weird or really lonely people, or of being a bit dodgy. Like there must be something wrong with you to need to go online. But actually no one judged me at all. Everyone was so pleased for me when they saw how happy I was, and the proper online site made everything feel safer.

What are your tips for other students looking to date?

Nate:

There is always someone out there for you, who you will feel an overwhelming connection with, so matter how you’re feeling at the moment. So don’t wallow in despair – I’d definitely recommend trying online dating. It’s worked for us! And don’t worry about the distance too much. If you like each other that much, you’ll totally make it work.

Annie:

Just go for it. I really don’t think you’ll regret it. And if nothing comes from it, at least you’ve given your confidence a little boost and met some new people.

What does the future hold for you?

Nate:

Well, we’ve been talking about this a lot recently! We’ll both have finished our courses at the end of this uni term, so I think we’re going to let loose and explore the world a little. It seriously couldn’t get better than that…travelling with my favourite person ever!

Annie:

Travelling! And moving in together…it’s a big step but definitely one in the right direction for us. Who knows beyond that…marriage, kids…oh dear, I’ve probably really scared him now! It’s all very exciting though.

Well we wish you the best of luck for all that is to come!
